    What is Calcitriol used for?

    Calcitriol is a synthetic form of vitamin D used to treat calcium deficiency in people with kidney disease, hypocalcemia, and hypoparathyroidism. This medication is also used to treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Calcitriol controls the intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphate, and thus maintains strong bones. This medicine may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

    The dosage of Calcitriol prescribed to each patient will vary. Always follow your physician’s instructions and/or the directions on the prescription drug label.

    Calcitriol can be taken with or without food.
